National Night Out

National Night Out is a nationwide community-building campaign. It promotes community-law enforcement relationships and encourages ongoing and positive neighbor-to-neighbor and neighbor-to-law enforcement communication. NNO generates support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, heightens drug and crime prevention awareness, and demonstrates neighborhood unity. Known as the night America “gives crime and drugs a going away party,” NNO sends a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized, on watch, and ready to report any suspicious and criminal activities to police.

First Tuesday In August

On NNO, held on the first Tuesday in August, residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on their porch lights, and come outside to meet one another – whether at a neighborhood block party, church, or community center. Events are as unique as each neighborhood area – with attendees numbering from ten to several hundred – and include activities such as cookouts, carnival games, bouncy houses, DJs and bands, and visits from police, fire, sheriff, and McGruff the Crime Dog

Embraces Powerful Spirit

NNO embraces a powerful spirit, energy, and commitment to creating safe and drug-free neighborhoods to live, work, and play. It opens the door to building safer neighborhoods by providing a friendly atmosphere for residents to get to know one another. NNO is an evening where law enforcement and first responders come together with adults and children under positive circumstances to “hang out,” play games, grab some food, and just have fun! In 2023, 36 NNO planners registered their events with RNW. Over 4,500 people participated in NNO!

Tuesday, August 6, 2024

NNO 2024 will be held on Tuesday, August 6, marking the 33rd year RNW has organized the community-wide event. NNO event planners are encouraged to register their block and park parties, church festivals, and other gatherings with RNW. We work with registrants and the police, fire, and sheriff’s departments (and McGruff the Crime Dog!) to schedule agency visits during NNO activities. RNW provides goodies and other giveaways, too!

Registration forms are available mid-May. To be put on a list to receive a form, please email [email protected] or call 262-637-5711.
